Trolldom in the Kitchen A Food Guide for Foreigners in Norway
by Melody Favish NOK 250 (plus NOK 20 for postage and handling) Author
and AWC member, Melody Favish, offers a wealth of information on cooking Norwegian
style in a well organized book that includes definitions, conversions, hints,
and recipes. Arranged alphabetically by topic, Trolldom in the Kitchen
covers everything from A to Z. Nestled amongst the factual information,
are some interesting tidbits. For example, under Cardamom we find:
If Norway had a national spice, it would be Kardemomme. There's even a children's
book with the spice in its name, Folk og Røvere i Kardemomme By by the
late Thorbjørn Egner, which, loosely translated, reads People and Robbers in
Cardamom Town. Use it in place of cinnamon in your next coffee cake for a
Norwegian touch. It also includes two very helpful appendices:
How to Read Recipes and International Food Stores in the Oslo Area. There's also
a Recipe Index at the back of the book (and her recipes are well-worth trying!). |
