We want to see YOU at the 2023 Scholarship Reception!

Come and celebrate the fruits of two years of member fundraising and meet this year's recipients. The AWC is proud to award a total of 200,000 NOK to two worthy applicants.
The winners of our 2023 scholarship are:
60.000 NOK will be awarded to KariAnne Vrabel. KariAnne has a PhD and is a specialist in clinical psychology. She is currently working as a research leader at Modum Bad Psychiatric Center with a special interest in patients with eating disorders.  KariAnne will be attending the Eating Disorder Research Society Conference in Boston on September 7th - 9th, in addition to going to the University of Wisconsin, Madison to work under the mentorship of Professor Bruce Wampold, an internationally recognized leader in the area of psychotherapy research. The sophisticated meta-analysis techniques used in Madison will help KariAnne finalize her own research into alternative treatment methods she has been leading at Modum Bad. KariAnne is dedicated to and passionate about her work. She is committed to finding the right treatment options for patients who are dealing with eating disorders. Unfortunately the instances of eating disorders have increased greatly since the corona pandemic.
140,000 NOK will be awarded to Marianne Singsaas. Marianne is a senior researcher at the Telemark Research Institute in Bø. She is a social scientist currently conducting research on the social dimensions of wildlife disease management and is one of very few researchers specializing in this field in Norway. Marianne has been invited to do a 3 month research stay at the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University in New York. She will also be visiting Wisconsin and Michigan to study the various responses different states have used in combating wasting disease in deer. Marianne told us that "with a majority of emerging infectious diseases originating in wildlife, mitigating and controlling wildlife disease has emerged as an area of global importance." We saw this most recently with the corona pandemic but also the many cases of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) in the UK back in the 80's and 90's. Few studies have examined the social dimensions of wildlife diseases and Marianne hopes that her work can help in improving state-led response to these outbreaks and also prevention.
We sincerely hope you will attend - the reception is a highlight of our club year and the culmination of much hard work. Each scholarship recipient will give a short presentation of her work, there will be a musical performance, and a light meal will be served.
